Amazon Alexa SEO Tools Will Be Closed

Alexa announced that it will discontinue marketing services after 25 years.  Founded in 1996, Amazon eventually acquired Alexa in 1999. It was first known for offering rankings based on traffic measured by a toolbar, but Alexa eventually expanded to provide a full range of marketing products including site audits and site reviews.  Backlinks.

Amazon's powerful group will disappear from its SEO and online marketing offerings in 2022, a disadvantage for the search marketing community.

Alexa Site Review

Alexa.com provides a full range of search marketing tools.  However, what is known about them is their Alexa ranking. Alexa Rank is a metric that provides a measure of a site’s popularity.

In the early 2000s, data was collected through the Alexa Toolbar which was downloaded and browsed by users.  Toolbars collect web traffic information from users that led to the introduction of the Alexa Rank popularity metric.

Web publishers can also install a script on their sites that reports traffic that can be used to raise their Alexa Rank scores.

Alexa Rank scores are usually viewed with suspicion because some people claim that installing a toolbar and visiting their sites can significantly increase your Alexa Rank.

Another criticism of Alexa Rank is that the data is more relevant to Asian countries than English -speaking countries.  This is based on a rumor that the Alexa Toolbar usage rule is more likely for users in Korea than users in English -speaking countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

However, the Alexa Rank metric continues to be used by a declining number of search marketers.

For example, to date, there are some companies that offer affiliate programs and use Alexa Rank to determine the popularity of potential affiliate partners and will not accept affiliates whose websites do not reach the popularity threshold of  Alexa Rank.

The negative reputation of Alexa Rank and whatever Alexa has to offer was stacked out in 2005.

One search marketer mentioned in a forum discussion in 2005:
Isn’t it time for Amazon to bring the towel to Alexa?  For a company that does a lot of good things, Alexa is really ruining its reputation.  Why would they want to be associated with such garbage.
Alexa is more than just a measure of popularity Ranking Metric

It may come as a surprise to many that Alexa offers a full range of search, marketing, and analytics software.

For some reason, Alexa’s range of online marketing tools, which include a backlink checker, is kept virtually secret, with seemingly no connection to the search marketing community or seemingly no promotional activity to say.

Alexa crawled the entire Internet and for years provided snapshots from the Internet to Archive.org.  The backlink information is extensive.

As such, it is able to offer services such as displaying competitors ’similarities to backlinks, including up to ten competitors at once.

Alexa.com Retired

Alexa announced that it will expire on May 1, 2022.
The announcement was brief and did not indicate why the decision was made.
Twenty -five years ago, we founded Alexa Internet.  After two decades of helping find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we made the difficult decision to retire from Alexa.com on May 1, 2022.

Thank you for making us your resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and more.

Alexa offers a powerful set of SEO and marketing tools and it’s sad to see them disappear.

Many people don’t know the tools and they might still exist if they were better promoted.
